You can change PC-Monitor Agent settings through PC-Monitor Console. If the change is made to a group, the settings will be applied to all the computers within that group (including the computers of sub-group(s) of that group). Choose Setting→Agent Setting… from the pull-down menu to start setting.
(1) Capturing Settings:
Record screen snapshots:
Turn on this option to choose whether PC-Monitor Agent will record the screen snapshots from the computer. By default, this option is checked. User may choose not to record the screen snapshot history by unchecking it. This can reduce the storage consumption of the Server as well as the workload of agent computer.
Capture when active window or title changes:
Turn on this option to capture screen snapshot when active window or title in the computer changes. By using this option, user operation can be traced easier.
Capture when specified window activates
Turn on this option to capture screen snapshot when specified application starts or gets windows focus in the computer. Usually, it is used to capture the use of instant messenger. User can specify those applications he/she wants to monitor. Click Set… to maintain the application list. To add or edit record, user needs to enter an application name and also filename of executable file or class name of the specified window. You may also enter both file name of executable file and class name of the specified window. Since user could change the filename of the executable file, using class name to detect application when active window changes in the selected window would be more accurate. However, some windows have no class name (e.g. dialog box) and therefore only filename of executable file can be used only.
Interval of recording:
To set the time interval of the screen snapshots captured. The default value is 15 seconds. The shorter the interval is, the more frequent the recording is. However, the resources used by PC-Monitor Agent will be increased accordingly and therefore it may affect the performance of the computer. It is suggested that the time interval should not be too short.
Don’t record after idle time of more than ___ minutes:
If the computer has no operation on the mouse or the keyboard after the specified time interval, the system will not capture any screen snapshot. However, if the time interval is set to be 0, the screen snapshots will be captured even there is no motion on the mouse or the keyboard.
Recording temporary space must be less than ___ MB:
To set constraint on the file size of temporary files regarding to PC-Monitor Agent in order to ensure the data will not consume too much storage space of the agent computer. The default value is 50 megabyte. When the storage size of screen snapshots exceeds this value, PC-Monitor Agent will discard the stored screen snapshots automatically on first-in-first-out basis, in order to save the new screen snapshots.
The free space on the disk must be larger than ___ MB:
To set constraint on the remaining free disk space in the system drive of the agent computer. This serves similar purpose as the above setting which is to ensure that not too much storage space is consumed. The default value is 10 megabyte. If the free space in the system drive is below this value, PC-Monitor Agent will discard the stored screen snapshots automatically on first-in-first-out basis, in order to save the new screen snapshots.
(2) General Settings
Popup alert message:
This option allows user to choose whether a warning message will pop up to notify user that his computer is being monitored.
Look away when no actions more than ___ minutes:
This function is to set when the computer will be marked as away when there is no operation on the mouse or the keyboard after the specified time interval.
(3) Report Time and Display Mode:
All day time: If this option is turned on, PC-Monitor Agent will record the applications used and websites visited by agent computer at any time. If this option is turned off, the applications used and websites visited will be recorded only in the three time intervals.
Colors: To set the color of the screen snapshot. User can choose 2 colors, 16 colors, 16 grayscale colors, 256 colors, 256 grayscale colors or true color. If better color mode is selected, the captured screens will be clearer but the file size of the captured history will be larger. The default color is 16 colors.
(4) Remote Control Settings:
Allow remote control: Turn on this option to allow the selected computer or group of computers to be controlled remotely through PC-Monitor Console.
Enter password before using remote control: Turn on this option to ask for password before using remote control. User with administrator right can set the password for using remote control.
[Note: If user does not have administrator right, the Remote Control tab will not be shown in the agent option windows.]
After setting these parameters, PC-Monitor Console notifies PC-Monitor Server to deliver these parameters to PC-Monitor Agent. The activation of these parameter settings can be easily figured out from the change of status bar information. As there may be some delays in the notification process, user may not see the changes immediately.
[Note: To set these parameters, PC-Monitor Agent must be running. Otherwise, the settings would not be applied to PC-Monitor Agent and those settings must be set again when PC-Monitor Agent starts. ]
